Golf is changing whether we like it or not.
I was talking with a member the other day on the subject of T20 cricket and how that has adapted to fit the changing market and the fact that we are in an instant society now.
How can golf evolve?
Well we have 9 hole golf which is a great social mechanism, speed golf (NZ Olympic Silver Medalist Nick Willis competed at the world speed golf champs but what else can we do?
There are certainly shorter courses around which give the impression of shorter events but I think we have gone as far as we dare go whilst still retaining the values and nature of golf.
It is often described as a good walk spoilt but by shortening the distance of the game, are we robbing ourselves of the walk?
It makes for interesting conversation in todays society for sure! It also relates to people expectations of improvement.
You get out what you put in but nowadays people expect minimal effort for maximum return. Unfortunately golf is a great leveller and does not enable that method to work, but I think I can divulge deeper into this topic on another post.
See you on the greens.
