slow golf play

Hi Everyone,

So the pace of play issue has reared its head again. There are so many sides to this never ending saga.

I, for one, don’t mind spending time on the course. What else would you rather be doing?

4 hour rounds are the norm and anything under that and we are ahead of the curve! Anything over 4 hours is seen as simply a waste of time by many.

There are so many factors involved…length of course, weather, tees being played, time of competition etc. I think it comes down to we, as an ageing population are not as fast as we once were.

If people are struggling to get around the course then they are not going to be quick. Will shorter courses help? YES! We have the white tees here and it is funny that the gents who play on them on Tuesday have more enjoyment which comes from better scores.

No doubt their games are faster- they have hit the ball less and walked less distance. I am a big advocate for playing the tees which suit your ability.

Unfortunately there is a trend in making courses longer which is the opposite of what needs to happen. Play the tees that give you the most enjoyment. If that is the terracotta tees- play them!

See you on the greens.
